A 10-inch BlackBerry PlayBook may be on the horizon
The news has surfaced from this exclusive report from BGR, who have been told by their sources that a successor to the Playbook is coming at the end of the year. Specific details on this follow-up are not known yet, but it’s thought to be a 10-inch version this time, unlike the current Playbook which is available to buy now with a 7-inch display.
In our opinion, it would be a smart move for RIM. This may be a rumor just now, but we definitely see it happening. RIM has probably seen what Samsung has done with their Galaxy Tab, ie – releasing as many tablet varieties as they possibly can. It may not be good news for consumer’s wallets, but it’s also good to have an alternative.
For those of you who are yet to buy the Playbook, would you prefer this bigger 10-inch model, or is the 7-inch still on your agenda? We’ll let you know when we have more details on this rumor.
The Internet rumor mill is talking about two BlackBerry PlayBooks – a new 10” model and one that has been delayed. Supposedly, the 10” PlayBook is intended to be sold alongside the 7” model and will not replace it.
Speaking of which, another rumor claims that the CDMA-enabled PlayBook for Sprint has been delayed indefinitely and has a leaked memo to dealers to back that up. The memo makes no mention of when that model will go on sale.
As for the delayed one, the chatter is that Sprint 7-inch CDMA PlayBook has been delayed again this time indefinitely. The current BlackBerry PlayBook sports a 7-inch display and is quite a portable gadget, but a 10-inch model will let users choose between portability and a bigger screen. Its possible that the 10-inch version will feature updated hardware but rumor has it that the new tablet will launch for the holidays.

This does not sound like enough time to prepare new hardware especially considering some of the official BlackBerry PlayBook variants are not even out yet. Check out our PlayBook review in case you haven’t to see what RIM got right and what needs fixing in their tablet-making efforts.
This information is unconfirmed, but we have been told that the just-announced BlackBerry Bold 9900 / 9930 won’t be launching until mid-August at the earliest. We previously reported the device would launch in the June / July timeframe and it still looks like that was the original plan, but apparently the launch was delayed for reasons unknown. Additionally, we were told that the rest of RIM’s 2011 lineup we exclusively leaked and previewed won’t be announced until BlackBerry’s DevCon conference on October 18th. Apparently the higher ups at RIM have been vocally unhappy about the “disproportionate” reallocation of resources to the PlayBook away from the OS 7 lineup. We’ll see how this all shakes out soon enough.
